Texas Snow Storm

This past February was one for the record books around here...

We got over 12 scale feet of snow, some like I've never seen round here. Not just any snow, some of that fluffy Colorado snow. It was ice cold for a week, so it hung around for a few days. We normally get a little snow and its gone the next day, but this caught us off guard.

Al was here early to help out. He's got an old trusty 4x4 he keeps up just for this kind of occasion. He's got others that can climb over anything, but this one is really good on snow.

We had to come up with a game plan. First thing is to get the ol' Cat fired up so we can clear some roads. A little either and that ol reliable thang cranked right up. I had used it not too long ago so it wasn't too hard to get it going. Just by dumb luck I had flushed the fuel tank and added antifreeze to the radiator, so nothing was froze up. It's a good thing because everything else is. The hydraulic is like molasses. I'm gonna have to let it run a couple hours on and off just so we can use it...

We heard stories of power being out here and there, so we were wondering where to help out first. We made some calls while the Cat was warming up and went from there...

Charlie sprung into action to bring some wood to some of the neighbors without power.

It ain't much but it might help some of our friends make it through the next few days. The forecast says its gonna be freezing for the next week and for some reason the power companies say there ain't no power to go around.

It's the best Charlie could do on short notice. We just ain't used to this kind of stuff round here. The weather man has cried wolf so many times no one believes him anymore.

Well, the Cat is warmed up dusted off, ready for work. Charlie met us here at the house so we could make our rounds. He said it didn't seem that bad getting around...

While we were waiting we got my other trucks warmed up in case we need them for something. Probably won't go out in my old Ford though...

The folks with gas in the house mostly said they were fine and don't bother. So we are gonna check on some of the older folks first. Most folks say they are okay so we may have made much about nothin, but we just wanna make sure. Nothin else to do anyways.

Stay warm folks...
